Nikes.

I pulled these shots from a killer editorial just published in Vogue China's August 2011 issue titled Boy Meets Girl. The Nikes grabbed me because I just purchased a pair and have found myself wearing them with everything.  I love how they were used in this shoot.  You can check out more of the Boy Meets Girl editorial looks here.

Lee Storm Rider.

When I was in junior high, a Lee Storm Rider was a must item in your wardrobe. I don't know if it was a general trend or more of a western Calgary thing, either way I remember it fondly. I was reminded about the jacket when I came across the top photo featuring a Storm Rider inspired Isabel Marant piece.  I went in search for more Storm Rider images and I kept coming across these fantastic film stills of Marilyn Monroe's wardrobe in the Misfits. I am definitely tracking down a vintage Lee for fall.

Dirty Dancing.

 

This hot weather has me thinking of summer film clothes. I always loved Jennifer Grey's bodysuit (swimsuit?) and jean shorts combo she rocked during the dancing on the bridge montage. Some fun inspiration in these shots for a few dancer-esque wardrobe choices.  It looks like "baby" was rockin' the sheer skirt ages ago.

Folding fan.

I bought a Japanese folding fan a few years ago at a vintage shop and this pic just reminded me about it. What a perfect accessory for this week. Folding fans are like silk scarves, their color and design can make a look all the more interesting.

Ellery.

Ellery is an Australian label founded by Kym Ellery who was formerly a Market Director at Russh Magazine. I didn't know about the label until I came across their most recent spring lookbook, which is amazing. The collection's strong structure, bold shoulders, and metallics give it a tough armor like quality to me. I was watching Game of Thrones recently and some of the men's wardrobe actually reminded me of some of her pieces. Backpack.

I have quite a soft spot for the backpack.  For me they are a must because I walk most places, but I've always liked the slightly nerdy, personal touch it brings to a look.

DIY biker shorts.

I have been seeing more and more DIY (do it yourself) posts these days. Some are more crafty than I can handle but when it comes to the simple snip of the scissors, that I can do.  My American Apparel sweats just recently met the fate of my scissors and now I think my leggings are next.

Uniform.

This shot reminds me of a black shirt dress I owned from Club Monaco in my late teens.  I remember it being the perfect hot weather uniform. An easy thrown on that was so comfortable but still really sharp. I love how strong and confident this woman looks in it, she could almost pass as security detail.
